This year marks the 50 th anniversary of the Pride Month. Thus, many communities celebrate Pride Month in June and local events are held accompanied by festivals, parades and other events where a huge number of people participate. Pride Month celebrations direct the world’s attention towards the struggles that people of the LGBTQIA+ community face on an everyday basis in social, political, and cultural spaces. The police raid in the wee hours of June 28, 1969, stirred a sudden resistance and protests followed thereafter which further gave rise to gay rights movement. It is celebrated every June in a tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Riots, which took place in 1969 in New York when the members of the community protested against a police raid in a gay bar in Greenwich Village - Stonewall Inn. The month is celebrated in honour of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community members.
The entire month of June is celebrated as Pride Month by the LGBTQIA+ community. The LGBTQIA+ community come together to celebrate the acceptance of sexual diversity.
